President Ersin Tatar received a group of journalists from Türkiye on Tuesday.

Speaking during the visit, President Tatar stressed that there were two states in Cyprus and that Türkiye had a say both on the past and on the future of the island.

The President also highlighted the importance of the support of Türkiye for the Turkish Cypriot people’s struggle for existence on the island.

Stating that it was clear that a federal solution was no longer possible in Cyprus, he said, “Türkiye’s guarantor rights and the presence of the Turkish Armed Forces on the island as a deterrent force were the only guarantee of our existence here. This is what our new policy includes. We can share the water, electricity and hydrocarbons for the benefit of the two peoples on the island.”

Commenting on a recent statement made by a Greek Cypriot presidential candidate that the Greek Cypriot side’s borders did not end in Girne but Istanbul, Tatar said, “Such ideas are absurd. It is obvious that such a thing will not happen. There are two states in Cyprus. Türkiye had a say both on the past and on the future of the island and is supporting our position in favour of a two-state solution.”
