The Speaker of the Republic’s Assembly Zorlu Töre is holding contacts in İstanbul.
Töre who delivered a speech at the Türkiye Civil Society Initiative Centre (TUSİM) titled “Cyprus’s Vision for the Future” drew attention to the importance of the continued presence of the Turkish Armed Forces.
In his address at the event, the TRNC Parliamentary Speaker Zorlu Töre said he did not find it right to hold talks for a federal settlement after the creation of an independent state.
He added that Türkiye supports a two-state solution in Cyprus based on sovereign equality and that it was out of the question for the Turkish cypriot side to discuss anything else.
“We will continue on our way if a two-state solution is not reached. The Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus has not been gifted to us by the British, French, the Greek Cypriots or the United Nations. This state has been entrusted to us by our martyrs and our veterans. We cannot betray them,” Töre said.
He pointed out that it was out of the question for the TRNC to accept the scrapping of the system of guarantees and the withdrawal of Turkish troops from the island.
Töre also highlighted the importance of Cyprus for Türkiye’s Blue Homeland Doctrine.
He added that the west did not want a strong Türkiye in the region or a two-state solution.
“These demands are not acceptable,” Töre said.
