The first step for the further development and modernization of 18 industrial zones in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) was taken today.
A cooperation protocol entitled “joint decision joint future” was signed between the Ministry of Economy and Energy, the Turkish Cypriot Chamber of Commerce, the Cyprus Turkish Chamber of Industry (KTSO) and the Cyprus Turkish Chamber of Shopkeepers and Artisans (KTEZO).
The protocol aims to prepare the necessary ground, create infrastructure and a joint commission that will oversee the work being carried out for the enactment and implementation of the Draft Law on Organized Industrial Zones currently pending approval in parliament.
Two representatives from the ministry, three from the Cyprus Turkish Chamber of Industry (KTSO), one from the Turkish Cypriot Chamber of Commerce and one from of the Shopkeepers and Artisans (KTEZO) will serve at the Organized Industrial Zones Commission.
Speaking at the signing ceremony of the protocol, the Minister of Economy and Energy Olgun Amcaoğlu said they will work with a vision for “a joint decision joint future”.
“We want to bring your plans to life by signing this protocol with the real stakeholders in all the industrial zones. We need to make the necessary arrangements before the ratification of the Draft Law on Organized Industrial Zones so as to not lose any time. There may be some problems in the protocol, but this is the first step and we will work on it together,” Amcaoğlu said.
He also added that their aim is to create sustainable industrial zones.
The President of the Cyprus Turkish Chamber of Industry, Ali Kamacıoğlu for his part welcomed the signing of the protocol following a seven-year waiting process.
The President of the Cyprus Turkish Chamber of Industry, Turgay Deniz expressed the hope that all industrial zones will be reorganized with the protocol.
Also speaking, the President of the Cyprus Turkish Shopkeepers and Artisans Mehmet Ali Ardıç noted that the chamber which provides the necessary support for the industrial zones will continue its support.
