Former President Derviş Eroğlu has undergone new surgery to open a blocked carotid artery.
The operation was carried out at the Near East University Hospital where the former president has been receiving treatment since July 3 after experiencing problems due to high blood pressure.
The operation performed by Prof. Dr. Aşkın Ali Korkmaz, Prof. Dr. Barçın Özcem and Assistant Prof Dr. Özlem Balcıoğlu involved a new procedure that aims to protect the patient’s brain functions while eliminating the artery blockage by removing the plaque which can cause Carotid stenosis, a common cause of stroke.
The former president had also an Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator (ICD) installed on July 5.
