Türkiye donated 100 thousand US Dollars to the CMP

The total amount of financial contributions made to the Committee on Missing Persons (CMP) by Türkiye has exceeded €1m.

This year, Türkiye has donated $100,000USD to the committee.

The Turkish Ambassador to Lefkoşa Ali Murat Başçeri who received the Turkish Cypriot Member of the Committee on Missing Persons Hakkı Müftüzade on Thursday presented him with a cheque worth $100,000USD on behalf of the Turkish government in support of the work being carried out by the committee.

Speaking during the visit, Ambassador Başçeri noted that the CMP was carrying out an important duty in finding, identifying and returning the remains of persons who went missing between 1963 and 1974.

Explaining that the Turkish government has been donating to the CMP regularly since 2006, Ambassador Başçeri highlighted the importance of the work carried out by the committee in addressing this humanitarian issue.

Başçeri also expressed the belief that the work carried out by the CMP and return of the remains of missing persons to their families to some extent relieved the pain and suffering of the families.

“We are one of the three donors who make contributions to the work carried out by the committee. Türkiye is donating $100,000USD to the CMP this year,” the Turkish Ambassador said, wishing success to the CMP in its work.

The Turkish Cypriot Member of the CMP Hakkı Müftüzade for his part said that Türkiye has been was providing meaningful support to the committee since the beginning.

Noting that the CMP had a bi-communal, international identity, he said the donations made were not only contributing to the work carried out by the committee but also helping to rebuild the confidence between the two peoples.

Müftüzade also expressed the belief that the CMP will make further progress as a result of Türkiye’s contributions.

Following the speeches, Turkish Ambassador Başçeri presented the cheque to the CMP’s Turkish Cypriot member Hakkı Müftüzade.
