The Cyprus Turkish Doctors’ Association has highlighted the importance of vaccinating children against Covid-19, particularly those who meet the necessary criteria.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the medical association said that despite data showing that most children did not develop a severe illness due to Covid-19; children of all ages could still develop complications after being infected with the virus.

It said that children under the age of 1 and those with underlying health problems were at serious risk of experiencing severe illness as a result of Covid-19.

The association also said that while around 50 per cent of children and adolescents could experience Covid-19 without any symptoms, there were still cases where children required hospitalisation and even intensive care treatment.
