The Minister of National Education Nazım Çavuşoğlu is holding contacts in Ankara.
As part of his contacts, Minister Çavuşoğlu came together with the Deputy Presidents of the Turkish Council of Higher Education (YÖK).
Steps to be taken in higher education between the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) and YÖK were discussed during the meeting.
As part of his contacts, Çavuşoğlu first came together with the Deputy Presidents of the Turkish Council of Higher Education Prof. Dr. Haldun Göktaş and Prof. Dr. Cevahir Uskurt.
Speaking after the meeting, Minister Çavuşoğlu stated that they held a productive meeting in a friendly atmosphere and highlighted the importance of YÖK’s support for higher education in the TRNC.
“With the vision we have put forward, we will further improve education in the country. The base point applied to fill the Higher Education Foundations Examination (YKS) quotas reserved for TRNC students who want to study in Türkiye have been removed. It will pave the way for TRNC students to enter Turkish universities more easily” he said.
Within the framework of his contacts, Minister Çavuşoğlu visited Anıtkabir.
Following his visit to Anıtkabir, he also visited the Student Selection and Placement Centre where he came together with the Head of the ÖSYM Prof. Dr. Halis Aygün.
Stating that the TRNC National Education Ministry and ÖSYM were working in harmony, Çavuşoğlu pointed out that the ÖSYM conducted many exams such as the Higher Education Foundations Examination (YKS) and the Council of Higher Education Foreign Language Exam (YÖKDİL) in the TRNC.
The National Education Minister and his accompanying delegation also visited the Presidency for Turks Abroad and Related Communities where they came together with the Head of the Presidency Abdullah Eren.
During the meeting, issues related to increasing the number of scholarships given by the Presidency for Turks Abroad and Related Communities and providing scholarships to Master’s and Doctorate programs were discussed.
It was also agreed to increase the number of GCE A Level scholarships.
With the update of the current protocol, it is aimed to give scholarships to Master’s and Doctorate programs.
