Töre: Tatar requested the Cyprus issue to be discussed at a special session

The Parliamentary Speaker Zorlu Töre said that the parliament will hold an extraordinary session in August to discuss the five draft laws which were completed at the parliamentary committees and the municipalities’ law.

Töre said that at the request of the President, the Cyprus issue will be discussed at a special session.

The Parliamentary Speaker Zorlu Töre who spoke on BRT on Wednesday announced that several draft laws will be discussed at an extraordinary session of Parliament in August.

“I held discussions with the Prime Minister. There was no urgency therefore the General Assembly of Parliament did not convene in July. The five draft laws which were completed at the parliamentary committees will be sent to the General Assembly for approval. If the Prime Minister finds it necessary we will call for an extraordinary session of the Parliament” Töre said.

Commenting on the municipalities’ Law, Töre said “the Ad Hoc Committee has prepared a report. We will see the results of the report; whether the government and opposition parties will work together on this issue? Or whether it will be conducted by the Committee on Administrative, Public and Health Affairs? These will all be clarified soon.”

Also referring to President Ersin Tatar’s request for the Cyprus issue to be discussed at an extraordinary session in parliament, Töre said that Tatar will brief the parliament on the details of the proposals submitted to the Greek Cypriot leader.

Referring to President Tatar’s statements, The Parliamentary Speaker said that in the case the special session on the Cyprus issue is not held in August it can take place in September.
