President Ersin Tatar is carrying out a series of contacts in Türkiye as a guest of his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
As part of his contacts in the Turkish capital Ankara, President Ersin Tatar met with officials from the Ankara Chamber of Commerce on Tuesday morning before moving onto Konya in the afternoon to attend the opening of the 5th Islamic Solidarity Games.
Earlier on Tuesday he also attended a live programme on TGRT TV during which he spoke about the latest developments on the Cyprus Issue.
Later at noon, the president attended the 13th Ambassadors Conference in the Turkish capital Ankara where he spoke on the Cyprus Issue.
Speaking there, Tatar highlighted the importance of sovereign equality and equal international status for the Turkish Cypriot people, pointing out that a federal settlement with the promises of EU membership would ultimately spell the end of the Turkish Cypriot people, reducing them into a minority.
He pointed out that a new policy, based on the cooperation of two sovereign and equal states, was adopted by the Turkish Cypriot side.
This policy he added was fully supported by Ankara.
Following the opening ceremony of the Islamic Solidary Games hosted in Konya, Tatar will move on to Karaman where he will be delivering a speech at a conference organised by the Karamanoğlu Mehmetbey University titled “The Turkish Cypriots’ struggle for existence on the island”.
The president is also expected to receive an honorary doctorate from the university.
Later he will be meeting with veterans who fought in Cyprus before returning to the island on Wednesday evening.
