The 48th anniversary of the liberation of Lefke was celebrated on Tuesday with two separate ceremonies.

President Ersin Tatar, who attended the ceremonies, said that with the new policy in Cyprus, an agreement can be reached with the cooperation of two separate sovereign states.

Tatar said that he believes that with a stable government the problems in the region will be overcome in unity and solidarity.

Two separate ceremonies were held in Lefke on Tuesday to celebrate the 48th anniversary of its Liberation.

President Ersin Tatar, Speaker of Parliament Zorlu Töre, high level military officials, regional deputies, Lefke District Governor Sadi Güneş, representatives of institutions and citizens attended the ceremonies.

The first ceremony was held in front of the Atatürk Monument at the Kemal Özalper Martyrdom, and the second ceremony was held in front of the Atatürk Monument.

Speaking during the ceremony President Ersin Tatar noted that the Turkish Cypriot people gained their independence and a new era had begun in Cyprus with the meeting of the Mucahits and Mehmetçis and with the 20th of July Peace Operation, and reminded that the second operation was successfully completed first in Gazimağusa and then in the Lefke region.

Noting that the Turkish Cypriots had suffered greatly and that he had vowed to maintain the sovereignty of the people, Tatar emphasized that if there is to be a new agreement in Cyprus then the realities on the island must be accepted.

Pointing out that for years no outcome had been achieved from the negotiations on the basis of the federation, President Tatar stated that they have started to share with the whole world that there can be an agreement with the cooperation of two separate sovereign equal states in Cyprus, which is now the new policy, and that they have made great progress in this regard together with Türkiye.

Tatar emphasized that Lefke is one of the valuable regions of the TRNC, saying, “We need to know the value of our state the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus in which we will live independently, freely and in freedom.”

“The most important thing is independence, freedom, sovereignty, and the success of the TRNC in general, as this will be reflected in Lefke. With the state being built on solid foundations the people in this region will be able to look to the future with hope,” he said.
