An inauguration ceremony was held on Friday for the Suat Günsel Public Primary School in Gazimağusa built by the Near East Enterprises.
The school building was handed over to the Ministry of National Education’s Directorate for the Department of Primary School Education.
The ceremony was attended by President Ersin Tatar, Prime Minister Ünal Üstel, the Minister of National Education Nazım Çavuşoğlu and the head of the Board of Trustees of the Near East Establishment.
The newly built Suat Günsel Public Primary School in Gazimağusa is one of six public primary schools which are being constructed across the country by the Near East Enterprises.
Addressing the ceremony, the head of the Board of Trustees of the Near East Establishment Prof Dr. İrfan Suat Günsel said that they were proud to be putting into service the school in Gazimağusa, following the construction of similar schools in Lefkoşa and İskele.
He added that they will be building a school in every district and opening the new campus in Yeniboğaziçi on November 15 on the anniversary of the creation of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC).
İrfan Günsel also provided information about the Near East Enterprises’ ongoing work in the automobile sector.
Speaking next, the Minister of National Education Nazım Çavuşoğlu praised the investments made by businessman Suat Günsel.
He added that all investments served to strengthen the state’s strength and motivation.
Çavuşoğlu said that seven schools had been constructed in the country in the last seven years.
Prime Minister Ünal Üstel in his speech said he was proud of the opening of the new school which had a capacity of 500 students.
President Ersin Tatar who delivered the final speech wished all the students and teachers success at the new school.
“The TRNC is continuing to move forward as an education island,” he said.
Tatar also praised the Günsel electric car project.
Also touching upon the issue of hydrocarbons in his speech, President Ersin Tatar drew attention to Ankara’a support for a two-state solution in Cyprus.
He said that this was the only possible model for a settlement on the island.
A ribbon cutting ceremony and a tour of the school building was held following the speeches.
