President Ersin Tatar on Friday issued a message to mark the 951st anniversary of the Manzikert Victory and the 100th anniversary of the Great Offensive in the Turkish War of Independence.
The anniversaries are being marked with four days of celebrations in Türkiye.
President Ersin Tatar on Friday issued a message celebrating the 951st anniversary of the Battle of Manzikert where the Seljuk victory over the Eastern Roman Empire paved the way for permanent Turkish rule in Anatolia as well as the 100th anniversary of the Great Offensive launched by Mustafa Kemal Atatürk against invading forces in the Turkish War of Independence.
Both battles had ended in victory.
He said that the Turkish nation was proud to be celebrating the two anniversaries which had changed the course of history.
Tatar said that the victory at Manzikert was not only a turning point in Turkish history but the history of Islam as well, paving the way of the creation of a Turkish-Islamic civilization in Anatolia.
“We as the descendents of a race that made these lands Turkish for over a thousand years will continue to protect our history, our state and all that has been entrusted to us,” he added.
Tatar concluded his message by expressing his gratitude to motherland Türkiye and the Turkish Armed Forces.
Meanwhile, the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus Zorlu Töre issued a similar message on Thursday.
