President Ersin Tatar emphasized once again that if there is to be an agreement in Cyprus, it will be based on equal sovereign states.
He made the statement while receiving the mujahid commanders who served during the Turkish Cypriot people’s struggle for existence.
“The main thing is to continue our existence in this geography in cooperation with the Republic of Türkiye and to maintain the will we have put forth” said Tatar during the visit.
President Ersin Tatar met with the Vice President of the Erenköy Mujahid Association Ahmet Yıldırım, President of the Retired Non Commissioned Officers Association Esen Ömürlü and commanders who served in the Turkish Fighters Organisation (TMT) and the mujahids army.
According to the information given by the Presidency, President Ersin Tatar stated that if there is to be an agreement in Cyprus, it must be based on two equal sovereign states and must continue to be promoted with the support of the Republic of Türkiye.
Reminding that talks for a federation are over, President Tatar pointed to the dangers of the federation model for the Turkish Cypriot people.
“Sovereignty and the state are essential,” said Tatar and added that the sacrifice, courage and heroism of the mujahids during the years of struggle will never be forgotten by the Turkish Cypriot people.
Noting that the developments in the Eastern Mediterranean reveal the importance of the Island of Cyprus, President Tatar said, “The main thing is to continue our existence in this geography in cooperation with the Republic of Türkiye and maintain the will we have demonstrated.”
He also emphasized the importance of unity and solidarity and added that he always gave great importance to evaluations made by the combatant associations.
