The Speaker of the Legislative Assembly of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) Zorlu Töre said on Wednesday that everyone has a duty to be more constructive, understanding and compromising.
In a message he issued to mark September 1, World Peace Day, Töre said that Atatürk’s principle, Peace at Home, Peace in the World on which the Republic of Türkiye was founded had become important more than ever.
The TRNC Parliamentary Speaker Zorlu Töre pointed out in his World Peace Day message that millions of people had lost their lives or were forced to flee their homes as a result of endless conflict in the world, particularly in the Middle East.
He said that the United Nations, which had a duty of preserving peace, was unable to maintain peace around the world.
“The fact that Russia, which is one of the five permanent members of the UN Security Council, invaded Ukraine shows just how far the United Nations is away from maintaining peace,” the message read.
Töre added that the Turkish Armed Forces was the sole guarantee of the Turkish Cypriot people and peace in Cyprus.
“There is peace and security where the Turkish army goes, no doubt the 1974 Turkish Peace Operation is the greatest proof of this. The operation not only brought freedom to Turkish Cypriots but Greek Cypriots as well. Peace was brought to Cyprus,” he said.
He concluded his message by wishing everyone a future in peace where all people respect each other.
