The Council of Ministers on Wednesday discussed the amended Election and Referendum Law which was rejected by the Constitutional Court.
President Ersin Tatar who chaired a section of the meeting told reporters that they were waiting for a detailed version of the court’s ruling.
Tatar said that following an examination of the ruling, the local elections will be re-evaluated without causing any chaos.
Speaking at a press conference following a three-hour long Council of Ministers meeting, President Ersin Tatar said that a need emerged to re-evaluate the local elections after the court’s ruling against parliament’s decision to postpone the elections to November 27, 2022.
He added that parliament had already approved the Municipality’s Reform law which has reduced the number of municipalities from 28 to 18.
Tatar said that services provided by the municipalities must continue and that they will be waiting for the court’s justified reason for rejecting the amended law.
