Martyr İbrahim Mehmet Goççino (Gürsoy) has finally been buried at the new martyrs’ cemetery in the capital Lefkoşa 48 years after his death.
Martyr İbrahim Mehmet Goççino who was martyred on the 20th of July 1974 in the village of Yalova (Episkopi) in South Cyprus was buried with a military ceremony.
Martyr İbrahim Mehmet Goççino, who was martyred on July 20, 1974 in South Cyprus, and who was identified after work was completed as a result of the excavations in the Turkish Cypriot cemetery in the village of Yalova (Espikopi), was buried at the new martyrs cemetery located within the Lefkoşa Cemetery with a military ceremony.
President Ersin Tatar, Parliamentary Speaker Zorlu Töre, Turkish Ambassador to Lefkoşa Ali Murat Başçeri, military officials and family members attended the ceremony.
Prayers were read at the Lefkoşa İsmail Safa Mosque.
After speeches were delivered from his family a moment of silence was observed, shots were fired to show respect, the flag on the martyr’s coffin was handed over to the family and the burial took place.
According to a statement released by the Association of Martyrs’ Families and Disabled Veterans, İbrahim Mehmet Goççino Gürsoy, who was born in Yalova, formerly known as Episkopi, in 1952, was working at the British Bases.
He was buried in the Turkish Cypriot cemetery in the village after being martyred by Greek Cypriot soldiers during the battles of Episkopi on July 20, 1974.
In 2018 excavation work was carried out at the cemetery and his remains were identified with the knowledge of his family.
