The Speaker of the Republic’s Assembly Zorlu Töre said that holding talks on the basis of sovereign equality was the official view of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus and motherland Türkiye.

Stating that the Turkish Cypriot side desired more steps to be taken for the recognition of the TRNC, Töre noted that they expected a move on this issue at the next Council of Turkic States meeting.

The Speaker of Parliament Zorlu Töre evaluated the issues on the agenda during a television program he attended on Monday.

He said that Turkish President Erdogan’s speech at the United Nations General Assembly was important in terms of making a mark on history.

Stating that the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus was demanding recognition, Töre reminded that President Tatar and Foreign Minister Ertuğruloğlu had asked the UN in New York to publish a report pointing to the current deadlock on the Cyprus issue and that an agreement cannot be reached.

Parliamentary Speaker Töre, who said that the demand for recognition disturbed some circles in the country, reminded that the condition of holding talks “on the basis of sovereign equality” is the official and national position of motherland Türkiye.

He added that despite all this, there was no point in some circles still insisting on a federal settlement.

Responding to a question regarding the tension with Greece, Töre stated that Greece was being pampered by some countries adding that the harsh warnings of Turkish President Erdoğan should be taken into account.

Noting that Türkiye developed very correct and balanced policies in the energy equation in the Blue Homeland and the Eastern Mediterranean, Töre noted that Türkiye will soon become a very important country on the energy corridor.
