TRNC population figures released

The population of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) has been announced as 390,745.

According to the population and demographics bulletin published by the Statistical Institute, 54.4 per cent of the country’s population is male while 45.6 per cent is female.

The population was 286,257 in the last census carried out on December 4, 2011.

According to those figures, 52.6 per cent of the population was male and 47.4 per cent was female.

In 2021, the ratio of the population in the “0-14 year age group” went down by 13.7 per cent compared to 1978.

The “15-64 year age group”, which is called the working age population, makes up 76.5 per cent of the population.

There has also been an increase in the number of births in the country compared to 1977.

According to records in 1977, the total number of births was 2, 923, this number was 3,614 in 2021. This means there has been an increase of 23.6%.

The Statistical Institute also announced that life expectancy in the TRNC increased after the 2011 census.

The average life expectancy in 2021 was 83.1 years for women and 79 years for men.

While the number of marriages was around 1,200 in 1977 and 2021, the number of divorces has increased by fivefold in 2021 compared to 1977.
