Cooperation on social services

Special courses and programmes will be made available for families in the TRNC as part of the “Cyprus Cooperation and Action Plan” prepared within the scope of the 2022 Economic and Financial Cooperation Agreement between Türkiye and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), it was announced on Sunday.

The social service models carried out by the Turkish Ministry of Family and Social Services are being expanded in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.

Within the framework of the cooperation agreement between Türkiye and the TRNC in the field of social services, special programs will be created to meet the needs of families in the TRNC.

Technical support will be provided for the development of the Family Counselling service model, the creation of a Social Service Centre model and the implementation of the Family Social Support Program.

The Minister of Labour and Social Security Hasan Taçoy and a delegation from the TRNC had visited the Turkish Ministry of Family and Social Services in August witnessing first hand the services provided in Türkiye.

According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Labour and Social Security, meetings were held with TRNC officials on legislation, family-themed studies and practices, ideas exchanged, and field visits were made to institutions affiliated to the ministry.

A similar visit was paid by the Turkish Deputy Minister of Family and Social Services Rıdvan Duran and his accompanying delegation of experts from the Turkish ministry to the TRNC last week.

They visited places such as kindergartens, rehabilitation centres for persons with disabilities and worked on joint strategies and collaborations for women entrepreneurs.

The Women’s Empowerment Strategy Document and Action Plan were introduced in order to share experience in the field of women’s work.

Technical support will be provided in order to ensure accessibility to the care and rehabilitation services for persons with disabilities and the elderly.
