Parliamentary Speaker Zorlu Töre received guest delegations which are in the country to take part in the International Taekwondo Tournaments, which are being held to mark the 39th anniversary of the establishment of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC).

Parliamentary Speaker Töre received representatives from Taekwondo teams from Türkiye, Azerbaijan, Norway, Bulgaria, Moldova, Romania, Kazakhstan, Ethiopia and Iran.

Speaking during the visit, Töre stated that they were pleased with the arrival of athletes from different countries and said that it should not be forgotten that every person has the right to practice sports.

Referring to the sports embargo imposed on the country’s athletes, Töre stated that the TRNC exists and is not null and void, and said that his wish is for these embargoes to be completely removed one day.

Reminding that it was the Greek Cypriots who created the Cyprus problem, Töre stated that it is not possible to seek help from the United Nations in this regard, and that Turkish President Erdogan’s statement that “the world is bigger than 5” is a very accurate analysis.

Töre thanked the heads of the delegation and the athletes for visiting the country and expressed the hope that they will have a very good experience during their stay in the TRNC.
