A theatre play titled “Esaretten Özgürlüğe” (From Captivity to Freedom) was staged on Wednesday evening within the scope of Eastern Mediterranean University Art Days.
President Ersin Tatar attended the play in which Turkish Cypriot Theatre player Hüseyin Köroğlu and Şenay Saçbüker took part.
Speaking at the event, President Tatar said that Turkish Cypriots had gained their freedom and independence with the inspiration they received from Anatolia and the Great Leader Mustafa Kemal Atatürk.
The play, written by Tiyatro AŞHK and directed by Hüseyin Köroğlu, presents the historical period, which began with the occupation of Anatolia in 1918 and ended with the proclamation of the Republic of Türkiye in 1923, and shows how a people escaped from captivity and reached freedom by making history under the leadership of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk.
The play was staged at the Eastern Mediterranean University’s Rauf Raif Denktaş Culture and Congress Centre.
According to a statement released by the President’s Office, President Ersin Tatar, who spoke at the event, expressed his pleasure at watching such a beautiful play and noted that the Republic meant independence and sovereignty.
Stating that Turkish Cypriots had been inspired by Anatolia and the Great Leader Mustafa Kemal Atatürk for years, Tatar thanked everyone who contributed in the preparation and staging of this historical theatrical play, and said that the Turkish Cypriot people gained their freedom and independence with this inspiration.
