An additional fund of ₺1.97 billion will be arriving from Türkiye as part of an additional protocol signed with the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), Prime Minister Ünal Üstel has announced.
The prime minister made the announcement at a press conference held on Thursday during which he informed reporters on the latest work carried out by the government.
Speaking before the press on Thursday, Prime Minister Ünal Üstel said that an additional protocol has been with the Republic of Türkiye which will allow the transfer of ₺1.97m in funds to the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.
Üstel said that citizens receiving social assistance or with disability benefits would be receiving a raise to their monthly salaries as a result of the upcoming anniversary of the establishment of the TRNC on November 15.
He said that how the remainder of the funds will be used to ease the lives of the public will be announced at a separate press conference to be held with Turkish Vice President Fuat Oktay who arrives in the country on Tuesday.
The prime minister said that ₺28m will be used in the area of tourism and culture, ₺3.8m for education and ₺15m for security.
Üstel also said that ₺50m will be spent on the health sector, particularly in acquiring medicines for cancer patients.
The premier added that an additional ₺900m in funds were created to pay off the Cyprus Turkish Electricity Authority’s debts.
Üstel also announced that a protocol will be signed with the Turkish government to install a filter on the main chimney at the Teknecik Power Plant and that once this filter is installed electricity prices will be lowered.
Touching upon other recently developments, Prime Minister Üstel said that all inmates at the old prison had now been transferred to the new central prison.
He said that the old prison will be used to house undocumented migrants and illegal immigrants.
