President Ersin Tatar on Monday visited the Turkish Cypriot Chamber of Commerce’s (KTTO) London Office.
Tatar who is continuing his contacts in the UK capital, said that Britain as a guarantor country was well-informed on the Cyprus Issue.
“Nevertheless the injustices and embargoes against the Turkish Cypriot people continue,” Tatar noted.
He added that the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus’ (TRNC) status had gained even more importance following the call made by the Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, at the UN for recognition and the lifting of the embargoes.
President Ersin Tatar and First Lady Sibel Tatar were greeted by the President of Turkish Cypriot Chamber of Commerce Turgay Deniz and members of the board of directors at the organisation’s London office.
Welcoming the president, Deniz reminded that First Lady Sibel Tatar had attended the opening of the office in May.
Expressing that their aim was to identify Turkish Cypriot business persons in the UK and to build bridges between them and the TRNC, Deniz noted that their aim was to build solid bridges, to be the voice of business persons and to convey their problems.
President Ersin Tatar for his part congratulated the chamber for its move to open an office in London and thanked the board of directors for hosting him.
Pointing out that there were things the British government could do and that there was a great potential that could allow direct trade to take place, Tatar said that it was their duty with Türkiye to increase contacts with the British government.
He said that efforts to achieve direct flights to the TRNC were continuing and stressed the importance of the Turkish Cypriot Chamber opening an office at such a centre and giving out a message to business circles in London that “we are here.”
Pointing out that Turkish Cypriots had exceeded their boundaries, Tatar said it was important to have their presence felt, their goals known and their voice heard.
He added that there were very successful business persons in the UK and that the goal should be to encourage them to invest in the TRNC.
“New initiatives can be undertaken with new ideas,” the president said, pointing out that there were very successful young people who kept up with technological advancements and changes.
“The homeland of every Turkish Cypriot is the TRNC state” he said, noting that they embraced every citizen, every patriot, and they wanted to bring them together under one roof, to unite their potential for the development of the TRNC.
He said that North Cyprus was among the world’s leading tourism destinations, and that the success achieved in tourism, despite difficulties experienced due to lack of direct flights, contributed to the TRNC’s economy.
Meanwhile, President Tatar, as part of his other contacts, came together with Turkish Cypriots residing in London.
Addressing the Turkish Cypriots who attended the meeting, President Ersin Tatar noted that the UK was very important to them adding that a new lobbying campaign will be launched, aimed at informing political circles in the UK on the Turkish Cypriot side’s new policies and the realities in Cyprus.
He also pointed out that these policies were fully supported by motherland Türkiye which further strengthened the TRNC’s hand.
