Turkish Vice President Fuat Oktay, who held a variety of contacts in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus on Wednesday, took part on a special broadcast on BRT.

He made important statements regarding the Cyprus issue and the economy and stated that he fully supported the call made by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan for the recognition of the TRNC and added that at every opportunity they brought this request to the agenda of the meetings they carry out.

Touching upon the Cyprus issue, Oktay stated that no other solution other than two equal sovereign states can be on the table and noted that President Ersin Tatar had made a proposal regarding the delivery of vested rights, but that no progress had been made in the past year and a half.

“The UN is not doing itself any good and thats what our president meant when he said the world is bigger that 5” said Oktay and added that in Cyprus they no longer want to talk about two different peoples and societies but two equal sovereign states.

“We have called for the recognition of the TRNC and Türkiye is doing all it can. At every meeting one of the items on the agenda is definitely the recognition of the TRNC” said Oktay.

He added that even this week during President Erdoğan’s visit to Uzbekistan he will voice this view.

“At least with an observer status these calls will continue in the future as well” said Oktay.

Noting that they will not allow the US to play games that will directly affect security in the region, the Turkish Vice President said that the same principle also applies for the Cyprus issue as well.

He reiterated that Türkiye is the guarantee of security of the Turkish Cypriot people and will do whatever is necessary to protect the rights and interests of the Turkish Cypriot people.

Touching upon the issue of economy, Fuat Oktay explained that the cooperation protocol signed between the two countries is the planed and the programmed version of the things to be done, and the road map.

Noting that they desired to see the Turkish Republic of northern Cyprus stand on its own feet as country that produces and sells its products overseas, Oktay stated that they are working so that the TRNC can gain a share of the tourism potential in Türkiye.

“We want the TRNC to be able to stand on its own feet and support itself, a country where prosperity increases with every passing day” said Oktay and noted that there is no time to waste.
