Martyrs who fell while defending Geçitkale and Boğaziçi on November 15, 1967 against Greek-Greek Cypriot attacks were remembered on Tuesday with separate ceremonies held at the two villages.
Speeches delivered during the ceremonies underlined that November 15 was a benchmark in the Turkish Cypriot people’s struggle for existence.
Speaking at the first remembrance ceremony held in Geçitkale, the Mayor of the village Hasan Öztaş said that Turkish Cypriots had been subjected to horrific massacres for years and that peace had arrived on the island on July 20, 1974.
İsmail Bozkurt who spoke at the second ceremony, said that the Turkish Cypriot people were proud to mark the 39th anniversary of their own state.
The Mayor of Boğaziçi who also spoke said that the date November 15 was a benchmark in the Turkish Cypriot people’s struggle for existence.
