Prime Minister Ünal Üstel attended a reception in Istanbul on Tuesday organized by the TRNC Consulate General on the occasion of the 39th anniversary of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC).
Delivering a speech at the reception, Prime Minister Ünal Üstel reminded the call made by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan at the UN General Assembly for the international community to recognise the TRNC as well as to lift the unjust embargoes imposed on the Turkish Cypriot people.
Referring to the history of Turkish presence in Cyprus Üstel said following the struggles led by Dr. Fazıl Küçük and Rauf Denktaş, the Turkish Cypriot people had finally started to enjoy their freedom and independence.
He drew attention to the importance of Türkiye for the Turkish Cypriot people and pointed out that the bond between the two was unbreakable.
Pointing out that Turkish Cypriots did not have the patience to wait for another 39 years for a solution, the premier stressed that the Turkish Cypriot people were being oppressed with embargoes and isolation.
“We still continue on our way with our motherland Türkiye. Just recently the TRNC was granted observer membership to the Organization of Turkic States. Our flag has been hoisted among those of member countries. Once again, the EU and the US did not refrain from any critisizm. They fail to see and remember when making these remarks that the people living in the TRNC have been living under unjust embargoes for decades,” he said.
