President Tatar holding contacts in Türkiye
Date Added: 23 November 2022

President Ersin Tatar has said that the admittance of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) as an observer non-member to the Organisation of Turkic States (OTS) was the outcome of the intense struggle being carried out for the promotion and recognition of the country.

Tatar was speaking at a conference on Cyprus within the context of the Blue Homeland Doctrine organised by the Dicle University in Diyarbakır.

The president is currently on a two-day visit to Türkiye which includes Diyarbakır, Malatya, Adıyaman and Gaziantep.

President Ersin Ersin Tatar embarked on his contacts in Türkiye on Wednesday with a conference he delivered on the Cyprus issue at the Dicle University in Diyarbakır.

Tatar was also awarded an honorary doctorate by the university in Public Administration and Political Science.

Addressing the participants, President Tatar pointed out that there were two separate and sovereign states in Cyprus.

Providing an historic background to the Cyprus Problem

Tatar said that the Greek-Greek Cypriot duo have never abandoned their aspirations to make Cyprus a Greek island.

“The Turkish Cypriot people achieved their freedom and independence following the 1974 Turkish Peace Operation,” he said.

Tatar reminded that the time had come for the TRNC to be recognised as a separate state because the Turkish Cypriot people, which had repeatedly supported all solution plans on the island continued to be punished and deceived by the international community with empty promises.

He added that the admittance of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) as an observer non-member to the Organisation of Turkic States (OTS) was the outcome of the intense struggle being carried out for the promotion and recognition of the country.

As part of his contacts, the president will also be inaugurating a park named after him, before he moves onto Malatya where he will be attending the İnönü University’s opening ceremony for the 2022-2023 Academic Year and will deliver another conference on the Cyprus issue.

Following the completion of his contacts in Malatya, he will then pass on to Adıyaman. Tatar, who will give a conference at Adıyaman University, will hold inspections at the Adıyaman Organized Industrial Zone and attend a press conference at the GAP Journalists’ Union.

Tatar’s final stop will be in Gaziantep where he will attend a reception being held to mark the TRNC’s 39th anniversary. The President will return to the republic on Saturday, November 26, after completing his contacts.
