The Minister of Economy and Energy Olgun Amcaoğlu attended the 38th meeting of the Economic and Commercial Cooperation Standing Committee of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) held in Istanbul, Türkiye.
Minister Amcaoğlu expressed the Turkish Cypriot people’s desire to cooperate with Islamic countries at the meeting.
Speaking at the 38th meeting of the OIC’s Standing Committee on Economic and Commercial Cooperation (COMCEC) held at the Istanbul Congress Centre on Monday, Minister of Economy and Energy Olgun Amcaoğlu thanked the Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan for the call he made for support to be given by member countries to the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC).
Addressing COMCEC members, Amcaoğlu said that the TRNC has been waging a very serious economic and social war since 1974.
Noting that the European Union (EU) was not treating the north and south of Cyprus fairly when it came to energy-related issues, the energy minister gave the example of a grant worth €700m given to South Cyprus to invest in electricity interconnectivity.
He added that the EU on the other hand did not help Turkish Cypriots access cheap and clean energy.
Noting that Turkish Cypriots want to cooperate with Islamic countries to sell their products to these countries, especially in the context of halal food, Amcaoğlu thanked the Republic of Türkiye, which has always stood by the Turkish Cypriots, and especially President Erdoğan.
Meanwhile, speaking at the OIC meeting, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan called on the Islamic countries to give the necessary support to the TRNC.
“You are aware of the rights violations that our Turkish Cypriot brothers and sisters, who are an integral part of the Islamic community, are subjected to. I believe that you will give the necessary support to the TRNC, which is an observer country to the Organization of Turkic States,” Erdoğan said.
