Heydar Aliyev was commemorated

Azerbaijan’s national leader Heydar Aliyev was commemorated on the 19th anniversary of his death.

While Aliyev’s tomb in Baku was flooded by visitors on the anniversary, the TRNC Baku Representative Ufuk Turganer was among those who visited Aliyev’s tomb to pay her respects.

Within the framework of the commemoration ceremonies, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev attended the ceremony held at the tomb of Heydar Aliyev in Fahri Hiyaban.

During the ceremony, in which İlham Aliyev’s wife Mihriban Aliyeva was also present, the national anthem was played and a wreath was laid on Heydar Aliyev’s grave.

Long queues formed in Fahri Hiyaban, which was opened to the public after the official ceremony.

Türkiye’s Ambassador to Baku Cahit Bağcı visited Heydar Aliyev’s grave with his embassy consultants and staff.

Bağcı, accompanied by the TRNC Baku Representative Ufuk Turganer, laid a wreath and flowers on the grave of Aliyev’s wife, Zarife Aliyeva.

Heydar Aliyev, who served as the General Secretary of the Communist Party of Azerbaijan from1969-1982 during the Soviet Union and the country’s President from 1993-2003 after independence, died on December 12, 2003 in the United States, where he was receiving treatment.

Heydar Aliyev, whom Azerbaijanis call the “general national leader”, is considered the “founding leader” of the country.
