Representatives of the ruling parties of Türkiye and Azerbaijan are holding contacts in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC).

As part of their contacts, the Justice and Development Party (AKP) Deputy Chairman Numan Kurtulmuş and New Azerbaijan Party Deputy Chairman Tahir Budaqov and their accompanying delegations were recieved by President Ersin Tatar on Monday.

Speaking during the visit, President Ersin Tatar highlighted the importance of Türkiye’s and Azerbaijan’s support for strengthening the TRNC and preserving its existence.

Receiving the visiting delegations on Monday, President Ersin Tatar stressed that the TRNC was an important part of the Turkic world and that the support of Türkiye and Azerbaijan was vital for preserving the country’s existence.

He added that developments and shifting dynamics in the Eastern Mediterranean had raised the TRNC’s importance which had made it all the more important to have a Turkic state in the region.

Also touching upon the admission of the TRNC as an observer member of the Organisation of Turkic States (OTS), Tatar said that it was extremely important that the membership had been registered under the name TRNC.

For his part, the Deputy Chairman of the New Azerbaijan Party (YAP), Tahir Budaqov praised the Turkish Cypriot peoples’ struggle for independence.

He said that they will be working all together for upgrading the TRNC’s status in the international arena.

Also speaking, the Deputy Chairman of the AKP Numan Kurtulmuş expressed the view that developing the dialogue mechanisms between the three ruling parties will be for the benefit of all three countries.
