The administration of the Turkish News Agency (TAK) visited President Ersin Tatar on Tuesday as part of events marking its 49th anniversary.

TAK Director Fehmi Gürdallı and members of the agency’s Board of Directors were received by President Ersin Tatar on Tuesday as part of visits marking the 49th anniversary of the establishment of TAK.

Speaking during the visit, TAK Director Fehmi Gürdallı stated that the agency, which was established to help voice the Turkish Cypriots’ struggle for existence, was celebrating its 49th anniversary.

He added that for half a century, the Turkish Cypriot people have been voicing themselves to the world within the scope of freedom of information.

Noting that the agency had recently launched its English news service, Gürdallı said that the agency was producing and providing news from the TRNC, South Cyprus and the international community, through traditional means and social media. Also speaking, President Ersin Tatar for his part noted that the Turkish Cypriot people had founded TAK and BRT after being expelled from the Republic of Cyprus in 1963.

“A vision was put forward and implemented with success under the difficult conditions of the period, where Turkish Cypriots were forced to live under threats and embargoes, when relations with Türkiye could not be established easily and under the oppression of Grivas and Yorgacis,” the president said.

Tatar said today the Turkish Cypriot people looked to the future with hope under the roof of their own separate and independent state as well as with the support of motherland Türkiye.

He said it was their greatest desire to see the development and diversification of services provided by the agency within the framework of financial means, adding that TAK was able to instantly inform the world of important developments concerning the Turkish Cypriot people, whether it was the call made by Turkish President Erdoğan for the recognition of the TRNC or the observer membership granted to the TRNC by the Organization of Turkic States.
