Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu has said that the admission of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) as an observer member was a historic gain.

Çavuşoğlu’s words came during a press conference where he evaluated the domestic and foreign developments over the past year.

Speaking during a press conference on Wednesday, the Turkish Foreign minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu said that Türkiye will continue to protect its rights and interests in the Eastern Mediterranean.

He said that Türkiye’s rights had been secured both at the table through the foreign ministry’s efforts and in the field by the Turkish National Defence Ministry.

Çavuşoğlu also said that Türkiye, together with the TRNC continued to strongly support a two-state solution policy in Cyprus.

He said that the admission of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) as an observer member was a historic gain which infuriated the Greek-Greek Cypriot duo.
