100th anniversary of Turkish Victory Day to be marked in TRNC

The 30th of August Victory Day will be marked in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus alongside Türkiye.

This year marks the 100th anniversary of the victory in the Battle of Dumlupınar, which was the final battle in the Turkish War of Independence led by the founder of modern Türkiye Mustafa Kemal Atatürk.

The 30th of August Victory Day celebrations will begin with the Turkish Ambassador to Lefkoşa Ali Murat Başçeri accepting well wishers together with the Commander of the Cyprus Turkish Peace Forces Major General Sezai Öztürk at 08:45 at the Cyprus Turkish Peace Forces Regimental Command Officers’ Mess in Ortaköy.

Meanwhile two separate events will also be held in the capital Lefkoşa on Tuesday to mark the day.

The first will be held in front of the Atatürk Monument where wreaths will be placed, a minutes silence will be observed and flags will be raised to the national anthem.

The second ceremony will be the military parade at the Doctor Fazıl Küçük Boulevard at 10am.

Similar ceremonies will also be held in Gazimağusa, Girne, Güzelyurt, İskele and Lefke to mark the day.

All public offices for the exception of essential services will be closed on Tuesday.
