Fikri Ataoğlu has been re-elected as the leader of the Democrat Party (DP).
Fikri Ataoğlu and Ali Tunçtaşlı had competed for the party’s leadership at the 12th ordinary congress which was held at the Atatürk Sports Hall in Lefkoşa on Sunday.
Fikri Ataoğlu was re-elected as the leader of the Democrat Party (DP) on Sunday following the party’s 12th Ordinary Congress in Lefkoşa.
Ataoğlu received 1,586 of the votes, while Ali Tunçtaşlı received 522 votes. 27 votes were deemed invalid.
2,135 of the 7, 470 members voted at the congress.
Addressing the party members after the results were announced, Ataoğlu said that a celebration of democracy had taken place at the party congress.
Stating that this was the first time in many years that the party had seen such a high-participation at the party’s congress, he said the DP will be showing a strong performance in the local elections.
Noting that despite the heated discussions at the congress, the members of the DP remained united, Ataoğlu stressed that they will continue to do their best in the government and in the process ahead.
Meanwhile, President Ersin Tatar congratulated the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Tourism, Culture, Youth and Environment Fikri Ataoğlu on his re-election via a post on social media.
