13th Lefke Hurma Festival

The 13th Lefke Hurma Festival or Date Festival, organized in cooperation with the Lefke Tourism Association and the Municipality of Lefke was held on Sunday.

The 13th Lefke Date Festival, which was organized to promote date products and increase its economic value, to support producers in the country and keep Cypriot culture alive, took place at the Lefke Bazaar on Sunday.

Once the opening ceremony was realized the Lefke Municipality folk dance team performed and then the head of the Lefke Tourism Association Nermin Şanlıdağ delivered an opening speech.

During her speech she noted that when speaking about the Lefke region date palm trees come to mind and noted that although they are fighting against the red palm beetle they have lost many trees in the region.

Şanlıdağ stated that as the association they support local production with the projects they carry out and that they will continue their efforts to provide new gains in Lefke and its region.

Lefke Mayor Aziz Kaya for his part pointed out that they as the municipality support every stage of production in the region and thanks to this production, people in the region are claiming the land they live in.
