A message to our foreign viewers and listeners…
The Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus’ public broadcaster Bayrak Radio Television Corporation (BRTK) is proud to be celebrating its 58th anniversary of establishment.
December 25, 1963, is the date our corporation was first born as Bayrak Radio aired its first broadcast. Our journey began in the garage belonging to our late leader Dr Fazıl Küçük during a period of national struggle. Two freedom fighters, set up a makeshift radio powered by car batteries to voice our cause and to communicate.
Bayrak Radio, which was a source of morale for Turkish Cypriots during their difficult times, currently boasts three television channels, six radio stations and a website. The corporation’s broadcasts are accessible on satellite, social media and other online streaming services.
BRTK which regularly keeps up to date with advancements in broadcasting technologies, renewing its production studios, and broadcasting services has made it its mission as a public broadcaster to appeal to all segments of society. We strive to provide informative and educational broadcasts in various foreign languages by considering the expectations of our foreign viewers or listeners who chose to live in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.
Aware of the importance of international communication in an increasingly globalised world, we work to inform our foreign followers accurately.
Most recently, with the arrival of the coronavirus pandemic, BRTK has been regularly informing its foreign viewers of the latest measures and rules adopted by the TRNC to curb the spread of the virus. The corporation, on a regular basis, updates and informs its viewers on the changing rules, measures, and restrictions adopted.
BRTK with its news bulletins and programmes has also made its mission to become the voice of our foreign viewers, to convey their views and to provide them with accurate and reliable reporting.
As we celebrate our 58th anniversary, we have a strong sense of pride in having accomplished so much. We shall continue to be the eyes, voice and ears of North Cyprus.
