Efforts are underway to make Türkiye Eximbank Credits available more effective in the Turkish Rebublic of Northern Cyprus.

In this context, a promotional meeting for Türkiye Eximbank Loans was held on Thursday.

Speaking at the meeting, Prime Minister Ünal Üstel stressed that low-interest-supported loan packages are of great importance in order to stop the shrinkage in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus economy.

The President of the Cyprus Turkish Chamber of Industry Ali Kamacıoğlu delivered the first speech on behalf of the Economic Organizations Platform at the meeting held at the Concorde Hotel in Lefkoşa.

Stating that they were working to unite forces in the country and strengthen the country’s economy, Kamacıoğlu stressed that that exports were essential for an economy-based development.

The Minister of Economy and Energy Olgun Amcaoğlu for his part said that efforts are being made to create new economic conditions adding that this was inevitable considering the commodity prices and exchange rate movements both in the country and in the world.

Pointing out that every country should be able to meet its own needs, Amcaoğlu noted that what was experienced during the pandemic supported this.

Also speaking at the event, the Turkish Ambassador to Lefkoşa Ali Murat Başçeri noted that the increase in the accessibility and volume of Eximbank loans in the TRNC was on the agenda at the 1st Review meeting held on 10-11 June within the scope of the 2022 Economic and Financial Cooperation Agreement adding that the technical committees had started to work without delay and that this meeting was held by taking steps to facilitate the use of Eximbank loans in the TRNC and to increase its scope and amount.

Stressing that it will be possible to expand the product range with Eximbank loans, he noted that loans can be used to cover foreign exchange earning activities, including tourism.

Başçeri added that the target was for the Turkish Cypriots to reach a brighter future in the TRNC with confident steps and to continue on their way with a strong economy that stands on its own feet.

Prime Minister Ünal Üstel for his part pointed out to the pandemic process that emerged in 2020 and its related problems and said that they were working on the measures needed for the economy.

Üstel said that they had started working with the Republic of Türkiye to implement some action plans within the framework of the Economic and Financial Cooperation Protocol in order to avoid similar situations and meet the economic needs.

Pointing out that the pandemic conditions revealed the importance of production, the Premier stressed that exports are a must adding that despite the embargoes they were trying to overcome the difficulties with Türkiye and the Turkish Ambassador to Lefkoşa Ali Murat Başçeri.

Üstel added that it was an important step to ensure that Türkiye Eximbank loans are used under the same conditions in the TRNC in order to increase the mobility of industry and tourism.

He also noted that in addition to tourism and education, which are the leading sectors of the country, exports will be increased with Eximbank loans and the shrinking economy will be moved to the desired level.
