Ahmet Aziz Altay passes away

Ahmet Aziz Altay, who was among the founders of the Turkish Resistance Organization (TMT) and served as a deputy in the House of Representatives in the 1960 Cyprus Republic, passed away on Thursday at the age of 95.

Altay was an important figure who made numerous contributions to the Turkish Cypriot people.

A ceremony was held for Altay in front of the TRNC parliament before his funeral at the Lefkoşa Cemetery.

Meanwhile, President Ersin Tatar on Friday issued a message of condolences.

“The Turkish Cypriot people have lost a valuable statesman, freedom fighter and advocate. Ahmet Aziz Altay who set an example to all of us with his contributions will never be forgotten. He will always be remembered,” said Tatar in his message.

President Ersin Tatar said that it was every Turkish Cypriots’ duty to keep Altay’s memory alive.
