Turkish Minister of National Defence Hulusi Akar said that Türkiye was capable of meeting the defence needs of friendly and allied countries such as Azerbaijan, Libya, and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC).

Speaking at an opening ceremony, Akar pointed out that Türkiye was determined and capable of protecting its rights and interests in the Aegean and the Eastern Mediterranean, including Cyprus, and stressed that they will not allow any fait accompli in the Aegean and Eastern Mediterranean.

Turkish Minister of National Defence Hulusi Akar addressed the opening ceremony of the SAHA EXPO 2022 Defence and Aerospace Exhibition on Tuesday.

“We are already a country that produces our own weapons, drones, helicopters, missiles, and ships. We will also produce our own national combat aircrafts and tanks in the near future. Fortunately, we are also able to meet the defence needs of friendly and allied countries, especially the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, Azerbaijan, and Libya” Akar stressed.

He also added that Türkiye always respected and will continue to respect the borders and sovereign rights of all its neighbours.

“Our only goal is to ensure the security of our country and nation. Our expectation from our neighbours is that they respect our sovereign rights and act in accordance with international law, reason and logic. Within this framework, despite all provocative actions and discourses, we always try to keep the channels of dialogue with our neighbour Greece open and extend our hand of peace for the stability of our region” Akar said.

“We will continue our efforts to ensure that the Aegean and the Mediterranean are a sea of friendship and that all wealth is shared fairly” the Turkish Defence Minister said and added “those who think that they will usurp our rights, should know very well that we have never allowed and will never allow any fait accompli and impositions on our rights and interests.”

“If Greece does not see Türkiye as a threat but as a strong, reliable and effective ally, it will be a great gain for both countries, our region and NATO. Our hope is that this will be understood and realized as soon as possible” said Akar.
