Health Minister İzlem Gürçağ Altuğra has said that an increase in Covid-19 cases was observed in recent days.
She said that people should continue to take precautions as the pandemic was not over yet.

The TRNC health minister also said that despite the uptick in case numbers, there was no increase in the number of hospitalisations but that two sections of the hospital including the pandemic hospital were being kept on standby should the situation deteriorate.

Speaking on BRT on Monday, the Health Minister İzlem Gürçağ Altuğra said that an increase in daily Covid-19 cases were being observed just as the World Health Organisation (WHO) was preparing to announce that the pandemic was over and that Covid-19 was now at the endemic level.

“What is important is how people who test positive for Covid-19 are faring, whether or not they need serious care or hospitalisation. 99 per cent of those with Covid are recovering at home. There are currently eight patients receiving treatment in hospital. All are doing well. All these patients have underlying health conditions such as COPD, cancer or kidney failure. There is no need to panic. But this doesn’t mean we should let our guard down,” she added.

Altuğra said that the emergency hospital was ready and on standby to be converted into a pandemic centre if the situation changed.
