The Minister of National Education and Culture Olgun Amcaoğlu has reacted to those who gave instructions for tearing up a page about Atatürk from a textbook taught in Greek Cypriot schools.

He stressed that the decision by the Greek Cypriot education ministry to withdraw the textbooks was a demonstration of ignorance and anachronism as well as deeply rooted feelings of hostility against the Turkish nation.

“They can erase Atatürk from the textbooks or pages however they cannot erase the leader of the Great Turkish Nation from the hearts of humanity,” Amcaoğlu said.

“They have this inferiority complex because they know that they cannot erase the name of Atatürk by removing a page from a textbook. I want to ask them, will they succeed in concealing his accomplishments, history and all that has taken place, by tearing up a page? Will Greek Cypriot youth not learn about Atatürk who made Turkish history when they tear up a page? I strongly condemn this ignorant, primitive and hostile attitude,” he added.
