The Minister of Public Works and Transportation Erhan Arıklı made statements regarding projects being carried out by his ministry on a program.

Stating that road projects in the country are going well, Arıklı said that the Güzelyurt-Lefke dual carriage way has been completed and will be opened on July 20.

He also stated that after money was allocated from local resources and the tender was realized for the second phase of the Girne-Alsancak road project, Türkiye gave ₺64m to transform the Alsancak-Lapta Road into a dual carriageway.

Expressing the hope that the dual carriage way will be completed by the end of the year, Arıklı also noted that they plan to start work on renewing the road leading from the Dipkarpaz village to the Apostle Andreas Monastery in September and complete it by the end of the year.

Referring to upgrading the 3G mobile network in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus to 4.5G Arıklı said that they are working on a tender and hopefully it will take place this month creating much needed revenue for the state.

Explaining that the tender will be opened if and when approval is given to transfer a portion of the fund allocated for the improvement of the highway infrastructure, Arıklı said, “If allowed, we will use some of the money from the 4.5G tender for the improvement of the junctions on the main artery from the Gönyeli Roundabout to the Hamitköy lights. By doing this traffic in the capital will be relieved to a great extent.”

Touching upon the ports in the country, Arıklı noted that both Gazimağusa and Gemikonağı Ports will be privatized in the future with the build-operate-transfer model, and that they will continue to work together with an expert team from Türkiye.

Also referring to Ercan Airport, Arıklı said that the physical construction of the new terminal building and runway are almost complete and that all stakeholders are working to ensure that the technical equipment purchased from abroad will arrive on time for the inauguration ceremony on July 20.
