Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Tourism, Culture, Youth and Environment Fikri Ataoğlu also issued a message to mark International Women’s Day.
He said that it was everyone’s duty as human beings to stand in solidarity with women, against the injustices, discrimination and violence they face.
Meanwhile, other state and government officials have also issued messages highlighting the significance of the day.
In his message issued on Monday to mark, December 5, International Women’s Day, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Tourism, Culture, Youth and Environment Fikri Ataoğlu said that women had played an extremely important role in Turkish and Turkish Cypriot society since they were granted the right to vote and be elected in 1934 as part of reforms of the founder of modern-day Türkiye Mustafa Kemal Atatürk.
“Women have served and accomplished great successes in education, health, politics, business and sports as well as numerous other fields. And they continue to do so. They are the most important building blocks of our society. They who are behind every single success we have achieved past and present are our honour and esteem,” he said.
Ataoğlu added that it was also the responsibility of everyone to stand in solidarity with women, against the injustices, discrimination and violence they face.
