Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Tourism, Culture, Youth and Environment Fikri Ataoğlu emphasized that Maraş has further increased the tourism potential of the TRNC.
Stating that Maraş being closed for many years has aroused serious curiosity and that tourists from all over the world have come to visit the area, Minister Ataoğlu said, “Fewer people from Türkiye visited Maraş than we expected. We want to see more Turkish tourists in the TRNC.”

He told the AA that the year Maraş was opened they had high expectations for the tourism sector but that due to the global pandemic this had not been met.
“However this has changed and now there is an increase in the tourism sector,” Ataoğlu added.
Noting that those who visit Maraş are able to see the historical texture and also walk on the beach and swim in the sea, Ataoğlu said that significant investments have been made in the area.
Referring to the new Ercan Airport, Ataoğlu said that the opening of the new airport means that the ticket prices can reach the desired point, resulting in more tourists visiting the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC).
