A number of ceremonies will be held on Thursday to mark the 84th anniversary of the death of Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, the founder of modern day Türkiye.
Sirens will go off at exactly 9:05 tomorrow morning, marking the time of the death of the most revered figure in modern Turkish history.
Separate ceremonies will be held throughout all districts.
A ceremony will be held at 9 tomorrow morning at the Atatürk Monument in the capital Lefkoşa.
Wreaths will be placed, a minutes silence will be observed and the flags will be lowered to half mast followed by the reciting of the national anthem.
The day’s second remembrance ceremony will be held at the Atatürk Culture Centre in Lefkoşa at 9.30am.
Speeches will be delivered on behalf of the Turkish Peace Forces in Cyprus (KTBK) and the Turkish Embassy in Lefkoşa.
The Minister of National Education and Culture Nazım Çavuşoğlu and President Ersin Tatar will also be delivering speeches at the event.
The ceremony will end with an oratorio and presentation to be delivered by the Lefkoşa Anadolu High School of Fine Arts.
Meanwhile as part of commemorative events to mark the 84th anniversary of the death of the great Turkish Leader Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, an exhibition titled ‘Atatürk and Cyprus Documentation’ will be held at the Broadcasting Museum at Bayrak Radio Television Corporation (BRTK).
The exhibition was jointly organised by the Turkish News Agency (TAK), Bayrak Radio Television Corporation (BRTK) and the National Archive and Research Department.
The exhibition curated by Ayhatun Ateşin will exhibit newspaper clippings, documents and photographs as well as Atatürk’s books from the collection of the late journalist and founder of TAK Said Arif Terzioğlu.
