Atun met with Turkish Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Dönmez

Finance Minister Sunat Atun is holding a series of contacts in the Turkish capital, Ankara.

As part of his contacts, Minister Atun came together with the Turkish Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Fatih Dönmez and the Governor of Türkiye’s Central Bank Prof. Dr. Şahap Kavcıoğlu.

Finance Minister Sunat Atun came together with Turkish Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Fatih Dönmez as part of his contacts in Ankara.

Atun and Dönmez held a tete-a-tete meeting following a meeting held between the delegations of the two countries which lasted about an hour.

No statement was issued after the meeting.

Evaluating his meeting with the Governor of Türkiye’s Central Bank Prof. Dr. Şahap Kavcıoğlu to BRT, Atun said that the time had come to introduce the FX-protected Turkish lira deposits tool in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC).

Reminding that the Turkish Lira was the official currency used in the TRNC, he expressed the need for a stable and sustainable management of TL loans and transactions through the FX-protected deposits scheme

Atun also added that they reviewed the final steps that will allow the introduction of the system to the TRNC.

The Finance Minister said a working group which will consist of bureaucrats from the Turkish Ministry of Treasury and Finance, Türkiye’s Central Bank, the TRNC Central Bank and the TRNC Finance Ministry will follow up the process via online meetings.

“I think that we will see concrete results in two weeks time. We will also receive information from the Central Bank Governor about the Turkish Central Bank’s current monetary policy and its vision for the forthcoming period,” Atun noted.
