The 57th anniversary of the Bağlıköy resistance and martyrs of Bağlıköy were remembered on Sunday with a ceremony held at the Bağlıköy Martyrs Cemetery.

Wreaths were laid, a minutes silence was observed, shots were fired in tribute and flags were raised to the national anthem.

Speeches highlighting the significance of the sacrifices made by the martyrs were delivered at the ceremony.

In his speech, the Speaker of Parliament Zorlu Töre pointed out that the Turkish Cypriot people lived in freedom and peace in the TRNC thanks to the sacrifices made by the martyrs.

“These lands became our country thanks to the martyrs. We will continue to protect the values entrusted by them and will continue to wave our flag on these lands,” he said.

Stating that the Turkish Cypriot People stood united with motherland Turkiye under all conditions, Töre said, “Games are being played to dissolve the TRNC state, to water down the system of guarantees and to remove Turkish troops from the island. We will fight to preserve the TRNC. We will not give up on our state and we will not make any concessions on the issue of guarantees.”
