Berova and Candan attend general assembly meeting of PACE

The National Unity Party (UBP) Girne deputy and Chairman of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe Delegation Özdemir Berova and the Republican Turkish Party (CTP) Deputy Armağan Candan attended the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe’s (PACE) 2022 year 4th term Ordinary General Assembly.

According to the statement made by the Republic’s Assembly, the report on the closed city of Maraş, which was prepared by the rapporteur of the Italian Member of Parliament Piero Fassino, was discussed at the Political Affairs and Democracy Committee that convened within the framework of the PACE General Assembly meetings held in Strasbourg, France between the 10th and 14th of October.

At the committee meeting, Rapporteur Fassino referred to his visit to Cyprus between the 6th and 8th of June and made evaluations regarding the report he will prepare in the coming days.

Deputies Berova and Candan also took the floor after Fassino and conveyed their views regarding what was being discussed at the committee.

The final version of the report, on which the deputies of the Azeri, Greek, Greek Cypriot and Turkish delegations also presented their views, will be revealed at the next meetings of the committee.

Meanwhile UBP deputy Berova also conveyed a text of his written speech regarding his views on the report on “Combating Islamophobia or Anti-Muslim Racism” to the PACE Secretariat to have it included in the General Assembly report.

The deputies also attended the political group meetings of PACE.

While Berova participated in the European Conservatives/Democratic Unity Group meetings, Candan took part in the Socialists, Democrats and Greens Group meetings.
