The Director of Bayrak Radio and Television Corporation Meryem Özkurt visited former presidents on Wednesday as part of a series of visits to mark the occasion of the corporation’s 58th anniversary of establishment.
She visited former presidents Mehmet Ali Talat, Derviş Eroğlu and Mustafa Akıncı in turn.

Receiving Özkurt on Wednesday, former President Mehmet Ali Talat said that BRT had carried out a difficult but important mission when it was first set up in 1963.
He reminded that the Greek Cypriots had tried to jam Bayrak Radio’s transmissions so that the broadcasts could not raise Turkish Cypriot morale.
Talat congratulated BRT on its work and wished the corporation success for the future.
Speaking during the BRT Director’s visit, former President Derviş Eroğlu said that the corporation has been and will always be the voice of the Turkish Cypriot people.
Former President Mustafa Akıncı also congratulated the corporation and wished success for the future.
BRT Director Meryem Özkurt for her part praised the accomplishments of the corporation pointing out that it continues to carry out a sacred duty of informing the public accurately and in speedy fashion despite all hardships and difficulties.
She said that the corporation which also reported in six languages played an important role in informing foreigners residing both in the TRNC and abroad on the latest developments taking place in the country.
Speaking on Tuesday, Prime Minister Faiz Sucuoğlu said that the BRT revealed the level of progress the Turkish Cypriot people have reached in the past 58 years.
He said that BRT, since its creation, has played a crucial role in informing the Turkish Cypriot people on developments in Cyprus and around the world.
“BRT is one of our most precious institutions. Today it is a modern broadcasting corporation that reaches our citizens living across the world. I would like to thank all those who have made this possible as BRT is indispensible for the TRNC and the Turkish Cypriot people,” he said.
Sucuoğlu explained that the Turkish Cypriot community who were forced to live in enclaves were able to learn about developments in the 1960s and 1970s through Bayrak Radio.
“BRT is essentially the struggle waged by Turkish Cypriots. I would like to wish BRT a happy anniversary and success in its future endeavours.”
