Information Technologies and Communication Authority (BTHK) has given Telsim an authorization certificate for 4G/5G.
Speaking at a ceremony held on Thursday, the Chairman of the Information Technologies and Communications Authority Kadri Bürüncük said that an operator was authorized in the first tender for 4 G/5 G, adding that the tender for a new 272 Megahertz additional frequency was concluded on 27 December and that the 222 Megahertz part was purchased by Telsim.
The General Manager of Telsim Sefer Tüz stated that they invested 140 million dollars in the TRNC as a part of Vodafone group, and that the frequency tender was the second largest investment they have made in the country.
Tüz also stressed that they will work with all their strength to provide 4.5 G services to every household in the TRNC.
The Minister of Public Works and Transportation Erhan Arıklı for his part stated that there was a stormy process regarding the 4 G/5 G tender however added that it was pleasing that the process ended this way.
Stating that 4G will not be a permanent point and that they had to switch to 5G within 6 months, Arıklı said “we had to realize this tender and we succeeded.”
Noting that among the projects of 2023 there was fibre optic technology from home to home, he explained that they have determined Gönyeli as a pilot region and that they will apply this technology first here and then in other regions.
Also speaking, the Minister of Finance Alişan Şan who reminded that a part of the 4 G/5 G tender had been completed recently, said “however this tender has an unfinished part in their hearts and we are happy to complete it today.”
Stating that the 2023 budget was prepared with the awareness of the importance of access to technology, he stressed that it was not possible to manually control and execute some things, and that there was a great need for information, technology and communication.
The Finance Minister also added that the two mobile companies will start their activities in this field in a short time, and that 4 G/5 G will pave the way for both citizens and the private sector.
